WSO Weekly Wrap-up
Hey WSO Monkey,
Just a heads up about our Pitch Me a Stock Bootcamp that’s happening tomorrow (June 29). If you’ve got interviews for IB, S&T, or Hedge Fund/Asset Management roles coming up (or just want to build a solid stock pitch), this one’s worth checking out. It covers how to source ideas, build a thesis, set price targets, and actually present your pitch in a way that makes sense.
Still a bit of time to sign up if you're interested.

Q&A About Trading Jobs - "Happy to answer question about working on a trading floor. I have spent 30 years in the industry working for JPM and MS managing IR derivatives trading books nd teams of traders both in G10 and EM. I teach now at the Master of Finance level at Cambridge and ESCP London."
Catfishing Bankers on Hinge - New Networking Strategy?! - "My plan was to set up a Hinge profile with fake pictures of an attractive woman. I set the location to NYC and swiped right on every banker I saw until I got a match with a banker from a real Elite Boutique (think EVR, PJT, Mizuho). I was so excited to finally have the opportunity to network with a banker, but when he walked into the coffee shop for our hinge date, he was horrified when he saw that I was a dude. Instead of complementing me for my creativity and outside the box thinking, he called me “psychotic” and “crazy”. I tried to ask him about a deal he worked on, and if he had any advice for me in the recruiting process, but he just walked out and didn’t even give me a minute of his time!"
POINT72 Recruiting Is Awful - "First role was for a public seat. Was invited to interview with the PM. Scheduled the call FOUR times over 2 months that all got CANCELLED before being ghosted. 2 of the calls they didn’t even give me notice - i.e., I showed up to the interview and had to email them as to why the PM wasn’t on. Second role was for a different investment team. Completed the case study, which took me 10-15 hours, turned it in, and then was ghosted by BD. No follow up. Not even a rejection. Like why waste time inviting people to case study just to ghost them and not even do the debrief????"

Cytonics is developing what could be the first disease-modifying drug for osteoarthritis, targeting the $393B market that’s been ignored for decades. Our treatment—CYT-108—is based on a naturally occurring protein and is already in human trials.
Over 10,000 patients have benefited from our first-generation therapy. Now we’re scaling the next-gen version—and retail investors are backing it. No VC. No private equity. Just a grassroots biotech movement funded by people who believe in upside and impact.

35 Y/O – BC vs. Fordham vs. Miami MSF – Too Late for IB? - "I’ll be 35 when I start the program and 36 by the time I graduate. I know the typical IB analyst profile is 22–27 years old. I’m not delusional about breaking into a bulge bracket — I’m focused on healthcare-focused boutiques and MM firms where I can add value from day one. But I want to know: Is it still viable to break into IB via MSF at 36? Or am I too far outside the hiring window for this to be worth the investment..."
What Makes a Superstar? - "I think the industry is far more diverse than you give it credit for - I have buddies who are 1st-generation off the boat immigrants who went to school in their local country and grinded to get their MBA here and are now all-star analysts. I have buddies who grew up in upper-class families who took the privilege and ran w/ it and made something of themselves who are also tremendous investors. I'm not gonna pretend like I know what the right ingredients are for replicating successful individuals in the industry, but I certainly think it's some combination of drive/work ethic x intellectual horsepower x intellectual curiosity x probably some ambiguous luck/opportunistic factor. If what you were saying was entirely true you'd see way less turnover/burnout across the industry than you do."
There Is No Meritocracy - Importance of Finding Internal Sponsors - "There is no meritocracy in IB or PE. None at all. You think if you work the hardest, make the cleanest models, catch all the errors, turn comments fast, you’ll get top bucket and be promoted? You won’t. That gets you in the middle of the pack at best. Here’s the truth: IB/PE is a relationship game. Full stop..."
