Double Standards in Diversity Recruiting, When Is Enough, Enough? - "Yeah exactly this. I mean even assuming they had good intentions, they’re going about it the wrong way (even assuming that the issue of not enough woman in finance exists in the first place). Like why wouldn’t you just try to raise awareness for finance as a career path it’s not like a lot of these woman are underprivileged anyways so they have the brainpower and resources to decide themselves if they actually want to apply instead of giving them an unfair advantage..."
What Are You Thankful For? - "A lot of things but the one I know I take for granted a lot is my health. Just having a cold puts me in jealousy of "me without a stuffed nose". And then I remember a colleague who got a torn ACL and is out of any kind of exercise for almost a year. And of course there are worse things than that. Let's be thankful for good health for those that enjoy it."
How PE Rode Out the Exit Drought - “Seems like private equity dealmakers have learned to squeeze water out of stones. Despite months of sluggish exit activity, they deployed lateral thinking to deliver value despite low volumes. Hear from a panel of experts from leading PE firms as they explore the inventive strategies that have kept PE deals thriving, maintaining strong valuations despite economic challenges. On-demand webinar available now: The PE quest for liquidity. Watch now.“

Which PE Firms Have the Hardest Interview Processes? - "The distressed PE firms are known to have super technical rounds, given the nature of their work. Also can be hard to prepare for these distressed interviews because it's not apart of the traditional PE prep materials most people use. Veritas was another place which was known to have tons of interview rounds a very technical process. Generally, the prestige of the firm tends to be in line with the difficulty of their process. Although, some firms seemed to have surprisingly straightforward processes from conversations with fellow analysts. On-cycle can be a bit random and there's rarely a one size fits all. I'd focus on knowing your technicals cold, having a deep understanding of the firm's investing style and recent deals, and recognizing that a MF offer is far from guaranteed..."
Time to Call It? Quarter Life Crisis - "...the wonderful thing about finance is that the skill set - and the opportunities to which it can be applied - are nearly endless. People seem to focus on IB, consulting , whatever … but as another poster rightly mentioned , companies need IR, corp fin, treasury , biz dev … there are zillions of ways to apply what you have learned and banking DEFINITELY is not for everybody. So cast a wide net and find something that will really make you excited to go to work. You will be far more successful if you love what you do, no matter what. It is a big world out there - take full advantage!"
Thank You WSO - "Thank you everyone for all of the help over the past half decade. I came from a non-target background and senior year of undergrad decided I wanted to do the whole finance grind Manhattan lifestyle and found this website. With the help of dozens of you and hundreds of networking calls & emails I joined a MM bank and finished my 2 year analyst stint. I got an offer for a LMM PE (mostly PC) shop, but am happy to announce I’ve grown enough as a person to realize I don’t want this. The hours, the ass kissing, the constant fire drills are officially behind me. I have left everything and am moving to a southern lower COL city with my partner where I am switching to be a senior FP&A analyst (cars company - my interest too). I’m out..."
Some Observations About Management Consulting - "Play your cards right from the start. Make sure you make a good impression on everyone you work with early. This is evergreen advice, but in an environment where you might be specializing more early, you might see the same faces more often. If you join a generalist firm, do your due diligence and find the right people, industries, and functional areas that pertain to both your interests and also won't grind you into dust. If you're going into a specialized firm, find the right partners/pyramids that will support your growth..."
