Would You Do It All Again - "On the other hand, for others like me, who come from lower-middle-class or blue-collar families, where no one really had any serious university education, it was definitely worth it. It’s like living a completely different life. You are surrounded by polished people, you learn a lot if you truly want to (you need to go beyond what is expected of you to avoid monotony), you get paid well, and you work in a comfortable office where no one is breathing down your neck as long as you know what you’re doing. It’s an extremely comfortable lifestyle where I don’t really feel any stress because my stress tolerance is extremely high due to personal experiences..."
Found the Ultimate Lifestyle Exit Op in High Finance - "Seats like this don’t open up often. Most of my team (associate level and above) has been here for at least 5 years, with the average tenure being 10+ years. I can imagine because it’s such a sweet seat no one wants to leave But I wanted to share my experience because this type of role doesn’t get much love on WSO. If you’re burned out, want a better lifestyle, and don’t want to take a massive pay cut, I’d seriously recommend looking into liquid credit or leveraged loans seats like mine. Happy to answer anything in the comments."
Words of Wisdom - "Brilliant young people often get sucked into finance, which becomes a form of status game in college, largely because of rankings and hierarchies posted on sites like this. While WSO is a great place to share feedback and experiences about recruiting, the sheer amount of false information about rankings, hierarchy, and compensation is Grossly misleading, and could cost you your job—or at least an interview. Stick to recruiting and internships and landing your FT gig - but beyond that - talk to people who are actually in the industry because they're too busy to be posting on here..."

Striking Out on Recruiting, Feeling Hopeless - "My background isn’t the best because I didn’t do banking and went straight to the buyside with a non finance (but stem) degree although from a good school so I don’t get too many bites on HH outbounds to begin with. Now I’m scratching my head and wondering what can be done to just get a new role. I’m struggling balancing striking out, some personal issues and dealing with a toxic PM."
Building Senior Relationships/Relationships in General - "Not at all, most of us are happy to chat to our juniors. It also is helpful for us to be close to our analysts as we also want to know what those who work with us think. It's a small world; good chance our analysts will be our clients in the semi-long long-run. Generally, though, most seniors want to help. I would suggest doing this with whatever seniors you are staffed with. I sometimes set up junior chats with my analysts and associates that I work with often/more than once, in part because my previous seniors did them, but I am more than happy to have analysts set up similar things with me. I also think it's pretty helpful for me as well; sometimes the juniors have unique angles on how they think and/or things to add to things like comps for example that I might not be as familiar with + again good to connect with the people I depend on to do the analysis and who work long hours in part because of me."
